Swedish driver faces $1mn fine for overspeeding in Switzerland

A 37-year-old Swedish man sped his car up to 290 km/h on a highway between Bern and Lausanne, while the speed limitation was 130 km/h. A police spokesman said nobody had ever driven with such speed on Swiss highways. In order to stop, he needed about two kilometers. His speed-crazy car was taped by video cameras. The man is facing a fine of $1 million.

A local court is yet to announce the final amount in a couple of days. In Switzerland, fines are based on speed and the financial status of car owners.
