The Lithuanian Railways say they are not preparing to resume potash transit. In a response to Euroradio’s inquiry, LTG stated that there are “no indicators” suggesting such plans.

“Potash fertilizers from Belarus are not being transported by rail through Lithuania due to international sanctions, and there are no signs that this situation could change,” the company said.

Earlier this week, Lukashenko announced his readiness to make a “big deal” with the United States. According to KGB chief Ivan Tertel, Minsk and Washington have “reached a consensus on a number of issues.”

Among the economic ones is the unblocking of traffic along paralyzed transport routes, which indirectly hints at the possible export of Belarusian potash fertilizers through the port of Klaipėda.

However, Belaruskali is under both U.S. and EU sanctions, and there is currently no talk of lifting them.

Economic analyst Volha Loika told Euroradio that if needed, “the goods could become American even inside Belarus.”

“There are different terms of delivery — the buyer can purchase under consumer delivery conditions, or at the border — it’s not that hard to formalize,” the expert said on Euroradio. “I wouldn’t be surprised if it could be arranged that way, if that’s the task set. Donald Trump also knows how to solve problems starting from the desired outcome — when it needs to be resolved ‘just like that’ [as required, — Euroradio].”

According to the Community of Belarusian Railway Workers, preparations for resuming potash transit to Klaipėda could be noticed through the signing of new contracts.

“First of all, it would be visible in the paperwork between Belarusian Railways (BC) and Lithuanian Railways (LTG). If new transit contracts start being signed — that would be an obvious signal. In that case, we [the Community, — Euroradio] would be informed about it.”

They note that no repair work is required to restore potash transit — “everything necessary is already in place.” Moreover, all this time, the export of non-sanctioned goods through Lithuania has continued.
