Security forces threatened Belarusians celebrating prisoners’ release

Security forces reacted nervously to Belarusians’ joy over the release of 123 political prisoners on December 13. A Telegram channel close to GUBAZiK (GUBOPIK) threatened to take revenge on those who allegedly reacted “incorrectly.”
“Over the weekend, many ‘under-the-floor’ people burst out (this is how propagandists refer to dissenters who remain in Belarus. — Ed.). Everything has been recorded and will surface… Maybe not right now, but it will surface for sure,” the authors of the силовики’s Telegram channel stated on December 15.
As reported earlier, on Saturday 123 people were released from prison and taken out of Belarus. This happened as part of agreements between the Lukashenko regime and the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. In exchange for the release of political prisoners, the United States lifted sanctions against Belaruskali.
Among the most well-known of those released are Viktar Babaryka, Maria Kalesnikava, Ales Bialiatski, Maksim Znak, and Marina Zolatava. Most of the freed political prisoners were taken to Ukraine.
