European Union will allocate an additional €30 million in 2026 for Belarus’s democratic movement. This was announced on December 8 by EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
“In the coming years, the EU will provide an additional €30 million in support to the people of Belarus. This will bring the total amount of our assistance since the falsified election to more than €200 million.”
According to her, this assistance will enable Belarusian human rights defenders to support victims of repression, and journalists and civil society to continue their fight for democratic change in the country.
Marta Kos also recalled that the EU supports Belarusian political prisoners after their release. “We have provided legal and medical assistance to more than 7,500 people, awarded scholarships to more than 3,500 students, and supported thousands of companies in exile,” the Commissioner stated.
On December 8, the conference “Belarus: Building the Foundations for Democratic Change” is taking place at the European Parliament in Brussels. It is attended by members of the European Commission, MEPs, as well as representatives of the Belarusian democratic movement, including Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
