In recent days, a coordination meeting was held in the Brest Regional Executive Committee, dedicated to the “increased risks, challenges, and threats to national security associated with the conduct of the SVO on the territory of Ukraine” (this is the Russian term for the war against Ukraine — the “special military operation”). The meeting report ended up in the possession of the organization of former security officers, BELPOL.
The document states that since the beginning of 2025, 42 incidents of UAV crashes, as well as crashes of their components, have been recorded in the territory of the Brest region. Moreover, at least three of them were equipped with explosive materials: one drone detonated upon impact, and two were destroyed by sappers.
The Investigative Committee conducted the inspections related to the detected UAVs. In 27 inspection cases, as of December 1, 2025, it was decided to refuse the initiation of a criminal case due to the absence of elements of a crime.
“Such a decision could only have been made by investigators if the affiliation of the UAVs with the Russian Armed Forces had been clearly established,” BELPOL notes.
The organization draws attention to the fact that the authorities are hiding from the residents of Belarus situations that pose risks, including to human life. At the same time, no claims toward Russia regarding the arrival of the drones have been voiced.
The situation with Russian drones in the Homel region, which is often used for attacks on Ukraine, may be even more threatening.
