State TV and radio in Mahilyou work without chief editors

The state-owned TV and radio in the eastern city of Mahilyou have been working for several days without the editors-in-chief.   Journalist Ales Dayneka who worked as the editor-in-chief of the local radio left for Russia together with his family in March. The radio refused to comment on the circumstances of his resignation.

Tatsiana Laryna, the former editor-in-chief of the local state television, was sacked on April 4. Ms Laryna told the Belarusian Association of Journalists that she was dismissed "under mutual accord but at the initiative of the management". She worked as the editor-in-chief for the past five years.

TV and radio company director Andrei Ilyinski says her resignation is not linked with the recent search at the editorial offce when the police found empty alcohol bottles. Backstage talks suggest that this was the most probable cause of her dismissal. However, it could have been set up in order to fire Tatsiana Laryna.
