Famous artist from Vitsebsk Joseph Solman has passed away in USA
A 99-year-old artist Joseph Solman who contributed to the reforming of the American art in the 1930s has died in his studio in Manhattan reports Charter-97. According to Solman’s son, the artist died in his sleep. Joseph Solman was born in 1909 in Vitsebsk. His family moved to the USA a bit later. Being a famous artist, Solman created an art group “The Ten” in 1935. World-famous masters like Mark Rothko, Adolph Gottlieb and Ilya Bolotowsky were part of the group.
At that time Solman was elected editor-in-chief of Art Front Magazine. Joseph Solman is considered one the most influential American artists of the 20th century who caused the enthusiasm for abstract expressionism.
