Since the beginning of 2025, Germany has imported €1.3 million worth of nitrogen fertilizers from Belarus — the same amount as during all of last year. The total volume this year so far is 3,168.8 tons of nitrogen fertilizers.
This is according to data from the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, provided at the request of DW.
In 2024, Belarus exported 3,275.1 tons of nitrogen fertilizers to Germany, also worth €1.3 million.
For comparison, in 2023 Belarus supplied 2,533.6 tons worth €830,000, and in 2022 — only 26.4 tons worth €19,000.
Thus, since 2022, nitrogen fertilizer imports from Belarus to Germany have increased 120-fold. Despite this, Belarusian nitrogen fertilizers made up only 0.3% of the German market in 2025.
Potash fertilizers from Belarus have not been imported into Germany since 2022. Their import is banned under EU sectoral sanctions imposed in June 2021.
Recently, the EU approved the introduction of a 6.5% tariff on fertilizers from Russia and Belarus, plus additional fees of €40–45 per ton throughout 2025–2026.
