Martin Scorsese on Sunday night in Los Angeles won his best director Oscar for the violent crime drama "The Departed", which was also named by voters as the best picture of the 79th Academy Awards.
"The Departed" took four of the five Oscars, adding the best screenplay adaptation and best editing awards to its triumph. Forest Whitaker took best actor for playing the murderous dictator Idi Amin in "The Last King of Scotland", with Helen Mirren winning best actress for her portrayal of a conflicted Queen Elizabeth II in the days following the death of Princess Diana in "The Queen".
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," won for visual effects, while in the animated film race, the Oscar went to the dancing penguin comedy, "Happy Feet." Italian Ennio Morricon, who composed over 300 tunes for the films, has been given an honorary award for his contribution to cinematographe.
The Belarus's Channel One (Persy Kanal) is to screen the taped version of the award ceremony on Monday night.
