Special police troops upset celebration of Day of declaration of national sovereignty
Belarusian citizens were planning to celebrate the anniversary Day of declaration of national sovereignty on July 27. Deputies of the Supreme Council of BSSR of the 12th convocation were to meet each other near the Red Roman-Catholic church at 4 p.m. These deputies took part in the adoption of the declaration 17 years ago. But the Independence Square was surrounded by special police troops at about 4 p.m. Reporters from “Nasha Niva” informed that police cars were parked around the square. Bus #100 did not make any stops from Kastrychnitskaya Station till the undeground station “Institute of Culture”. The underground exit to Independence Square was closed.
There were several people (from 25 to 50) near the Red Roman-Catholic church at 4.25. However, people in black and special police officers forced them out to Myasnikou Street. Vintsuk Vyachorka, Syarhei Skrabets and a cultural worker Uladzimir Sodal were among them. According to “Nasha Niva”, the leader of the UCP Anatol Lyabedzka was detained and delivered to Zavadski District Department of the Interior.
Journalists who attended the action saw a bus with people detained at Independence Square parked in Myasnikou Street. About six people were detained.
