Russia denounces Belarus's S-400 air defense complex bid

Russia has no plans to export the state-of-the-art S-400 air defense missile system in the nearest years, the Russian news agency Ria-Novosti quoted Thursday a high-ranking defense source as saying.

S-400 described by the source as "a unique Russian weapon" will not be sold even to the countries which are members of the Commonwealth of Independent States. According to the quoted official, "decision about the supplies could only be taken by the highest Russian leadership".

Belarus's Defense Minister Leanid Maltsaw said yesterday that Belarus wanted to purchase a S-400 surface-to-air missile system in the near future.

Maltsaw noted that our country was only interested in the most modern weapons, including, apart from S-400, Russia's latest jet fighters. "We don't need old crap", the defense minister said.

Apparently, Moscow has noticed Maltsaw's plans.

Ria-Novosti reports that S-400 is presently being deployed to the Russian Air/Air Defense Forces.
