Warsaw human rights center defends Dzemidzenka

"The human rights center "Freedom and Law" is deeply concerned about the "Young Front" Vice-Chairman Mikalaj Dzemidzenka's health condition and insists that the Belarusian authorities should provide medical assistance to Mikalaj, who is on hunger strike in the Akrestsina Street detention center, immediately", - stated in the document.

The authors of the appeal remind the Belarusian authorities that failure to provide medical assistance is a serious violation of human rights and contradicts the International Pact on Civil and Political Rights, adopted in New York on December 19, 1966.

"We demand that the persons who are responsible for the inhuman imprisonment of the Belarusian patriot should be punished as they committed a crime, in our opinion", - stated in the letter.

Let us remind you, Dzemidzenka was arrested  on Saturday, May 14, and sentenced to 15 days of administrative detention two days later for a "non-sanctioned action" which he had not committed. The youngster started a hunger strike in the cell of the Akrestsina Street detention center as a protest against the illegal sentence, the web-site of the "Young Front" informs.
