Roundtable discussion dedicated to independent journalism held in Brest
It has been suggested to open a Hyde-park in the city.
The roundtable discussion was organized by the regional branch of the Belarusian Association of Journalists together with "Young Democrats" - the youth wing of the UCP party. Journalists of Brest non-state media and representatives of political parties were invited.
The participants discussed strategies of survival for newspapers, possibilities to discuss local problems with the authorities and democratic organizations, access to information and means of its dissemination.
The head of the Belarusian Free Trade Union's regional branch Valiantsin Lazarenkau came up with the idea: to achieve opening a Hyde-Park in Brest.
Valiantsin Lazarenkau: "Why not designate some "freedom of word place". This forest near the Trade Union's palace of culute would do. So it would be great to announce something like this: all those who respect freedom of word should come there on a certain day".
