PACE: Situation with human rights in Belarus deteriorates
PACE's rapporteur condemned political repressions in Belarus.
Sinikka Hurskainen made a report about the recent trials and repressions against human rights defenders and independent media in Belarus at yesterday's session of PACE's Political Committee. According to her, Belarusian authorities “chronically fail to fulfill the Council of Europe's standards on democracy, human rights and supremacy of law".
PACE's Political Committee strongly condemned continued harassment of the Belarusian authorities' political opponents and urged to release all political prisoners. The Committee will share opinions with regard to the situation in Belarus with representatives of the local civil society and the democratic opposition during PACE's summer session (June 22-24), Radio Liberty informs.
