Investigator thinks Sieviarynets' meeting with a priest is "unnecessary"

Investigator Ivan Sanko once again refused the imprisoned BCD leader Paval Sieviarynets in his request to meet with a priest. A coordinator of the BCD steering committee in Vitsebsk, the prisoner's mother Tatsiana Sieviarynets filed an official request for this back on March 30.

"I filed the request in accordance with claim 102 Article 10 of the KGB detention center's internal regulations, according to which a prisoner has a right to see a priest. However, the investigator Sanko said that this meeting is not reasonable - the regulations prescribe that an investigator has a right to allow such a meeting, but it is not an obligation. First he said it wasn't in his competence. When he realised I was a little bit familiar with the laws, he said he had a right not to allow the meeting. I consider that this is immoral, it's a scorn, with regard to all the prisoners and Paval in the first place", - Tatsiana Sieviarynets has said.

She has added that she will continue struggling for an opportunity for her son to meet with a priest. She may appeal to the Patriarch Kiryl as the next step, the BCD press-center informs.
