Democratic opposition boycotts election campaigns
It is said in the statement adopted at a meeting of the National Coordination Council of the Democratic Opposition on April 11.
According to the statement, “total repressions started on December 19 threaten the society and the existence of Belarus as an independent state”.
Representatives of the democratic forces demand “to return the right to create government in the country with the help of free, democratic and fair elections to the Belarusian people”. “It will become possible only if political prisoners are released, repressions and persecution are stopped and citizens are given their constitutional right for the freedom of speech, assembly and associations. Major changes should be introduced in the legislation and the election practice”, - is noted in the statement.
The opposition preserves the right to boycott any election campaign until the conditions are met, reports BelaPAN.
