Profiteers making 1 million roubles a day near “Belarus” cinema house

A tall young man in a black wind-breaker is offering “today’s tickets” near the entrance to the cinema house “Belarus”. His daily profit is a bit more than a monthly salary of a young teacher. “The businessmen” work the two together. While one of them is looking for buyers the other is standing 10 metres away.  He is holding a can of energy drink in his hands. This profiteer keeps the money and tickets and approaches his accomplice when people agree to pay.

An ERB reporter pretended to be interested in such a deal:

Zmіtser Hlіnskі: “Tickets to what films do you have?”

Profeteer: “To “House-spirit” and “Quantum of mercy” for the last performance”.

Zmіtser Hlіnskі: “How much are they?”

Profeteer: “12 500”.

Zmіtser Hlіnskі: “And how much are they there?” (points towards the ticket-offices)

Profeteer: “ 9 000”.

Zmіtser Hlіnskі: “Are there any?”

Profeteer: “Nope”.

Naturally, people who meet the profiteers near the entrance go to the ticket-offices to find out if it is true. The ERB reporter did the same.

Zmіtser Hlіnskі: “Could you tell me if there are tickets to the fifth hall available today?”

Cashier: “Only tickets in different parts of the hall are left”.

It is not surprising that only a few separate tickets were left in the ticket-office of “Belarus” at half past 6 p.m. (10 minutes before the film). The tickets were to seats situated in different parts of the hall. Cinema-goers had to make a choice: wasting 3.5 thousands on each ticket to watch the film together or saving the money to part with each other for 2 hours…

According to the profiteers, they manage to sell from 60 to 80 tickets to one performance. Let’s multiply “the extra charge” of 3.5 thousands by it and we get 210-280 thousands of “net” profit. You can make it only on week-ends and during first nights.

The profiteers had tickets to two films - “House-spirit” and “Quantum of mercy”. Each is shown twice an evening in “Belarus”. That is why the number should be multiplied by four. It turns out that the profiteers’ profit is from 840 thousand to 1.12 million roubles an evening.

Let’s divide it between the two profiteers - it makes 420-560 thousands for each. It is a bit more than a monthly salary of a young teacher whose experience is less than five years.

Minsk recalled speculation on tickets at the end of September, when big football was about to arrive in Minsk.  One profiteer managed to make more than 7 millions on selling tickets to “home” matches of Barysau BATE back then. Four profiteers were detained.

However, European super clubs do not arrive in Belarus more than once a fortnight. And Minskers go to the cinema every day.
