Geneva: Trade unions’ rights rudely violated in Belarus

The decision was made by the ILO Committee on the Application of Standards.

Representatives of the Belarusian government found the decision to be ‘a very sore subject’, head of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions Alyaksandr Yarashuk told BelaPAN (he also attended the meeting).

Belarus has been added to the special paragraph for the seventh time. The authorities still do not allow independent trade unions to work on equal terms with official trade unions and the persecution based on membership in independent trade unions continues. Our country was expelled from the EU's Generalised System of Preferences because of these violations seven years ago.
