National bank says no need to present passport for e-card payments
The National Bank of Belarus responds to demands from retailers so that customers present passport when paying with cards.
The National Bank has issued in a special notice stressing that the National Bank provisions and e-payment network rules do not envisage mandatory presentation of an ID by a customer when making a payment for goods or services with a bank card.
However, the National Bank says that sales attendants may suggest that card holders present an an identification document. He or she may also suggest inserting a PIN code or paying with cash. This recommendation applies to the situations when the signatures on the receipt does not match the signature on the back of the card.
